A Long Way Gone Ch:1-2

My feelings on these chapters were just unsatisfying. I felt like the feeling of the book, at first, was nice and funny because they rap and hip-hop. Then when they showed the people at the other village. It just destroyed all the happy feelings. The text in the book told me that there was horrible things happening. The book was so descriptive that it was hard not to imagine this. It looked like a horrible site. It sounded so depressing. How could anyone see that and not be sad forever. Still, Ishmael tries to think of something different to get those thoughts out of his mind. I think he sounds like a nice boy on my opinion. I feel depressed reading about what he had to do in the army with the kids and other adults. The pain that he feels is probably unbearable.

I think he does feel sad now and probably always will for what he saw and did in the time just before and as a child soldier. However, i think he wrote this book to try to get it out there instead of sitting there letting it eat him up with all the guilt he must feel now.

You're right--it's very descriptive, and the quality of Beah's writing makes the scenes very vivid. Remember that you're free to skip these graphic scenes if you want.
